Ariana Restaurant has opened in the former Waid’s location at 1130 West 103rd Street. The Pitch’s Charles Feruzza stopped by the South Kansas City spot that blends American and Afghan cuisine — a nod to the eatery’s former life as a diner and owner Shaheen Shah Gul’s roots in Afghanistan. The options at the $10.99 dinner buffet range from chicken korma to deep-fried chicken, while the breakfast and lunch menu still has Waid’s classics. Ariana is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The phone number is 816-941-0111.

A former Waid’s Restaurant in Lee’s Summit has reopened as a Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers. The new Freddy’s is at 194 N.W. Oldham Parkway in the Summit Shopping Center. The burger and shake joint (think Winstead’s meets Foo’s Fabulous Frozen Custard) is open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The phone number is 816-525-2277.

Ariana is pretty bizarre. It seems like old Waid’s waitresses still work there. The buffet was legit though.
