Andy’s Frozen Custard has opened at 1200 Westport Road. The custard shop chain has spent the past year rehabbing the former site of Terry’s Service Station.
Andy’s first shop opened in Osage Beach, Missouri, in 1986. Owner Andy Kuntz — his parents Carol and John started the custard shop and named it after their son — now operates 25 locations in five states. Last April, Kuntz told The Recommended Daily that he plans to open several stores in the Kansas City area, where he has a home, over the next five years.
Andy’s makes fresh custard every hour in two base flavors: vanilla and chocolate. That custard becomes concretes, cones, sundaes, shakes, malts, and old-fashioned sodas (custard with seltzer water). You can also get Italian ice and custard bars (custard dipped in chocolate). They rotate in fruits with the seasons — right night they’re featuring blackberry concretes and strawberry shortcake sundaes.
The Westport store is open from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday in the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day). It will close a half hour earlier in the winter.[Image via Facebook: Andy’s Frozen Custard]
