Somerset Ridge Vineyard and Winery (29725 Somerset Road, Paola, Kansas) has a different take on an art and wine walk. They’re holding their annual Art in the Vines on Saturday (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Sunday (12 to 5 p.m.). More than three dozen artists will display their work in the Kansas vineyard at the event that’s free to attend.
It’s officially popsicle season. Accordingly, The Bite (23 E 3rd Street) in the City Market has added popsicles from Tropicana Paleteria to its menu. The fruit and milk-based popsicles are delicious. And on Sundays in the summer, the City Market hosts the Art of the Machine with different vintage cars (this week it’s classic Thunderbirds) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Praise the incredible, edible egg on Saturday. Slow Food Kansas City has asked area restaurants and bakers to create one egg dish for its Local Egg Day Celebration. They’ll be special egg entrees at Magnolia, Lidia’s, and Renee Kelly’s Harvest, among others.
The Merriam Farmers’ Market is now open. It’s held at the Merriam Marketplace (5740 Merriam Drive) from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday (a Wednesday market from 4 to 7 p.m. will begin on June 4).
McCoy’s Public House and Kelly’s Westport Inn are holding their third annual Memorial Day Block Party on Sunday night at 8 p.m. The party is outside on Pennsylvania between McCoy’s and Kelly’s. There’s a $5 cover charge and Lost Wax performs at 9 p.m.
Grab a blanket or some folding chairs and set up a picnic (coolers are welcome — glass bottles and pets are not) outside Union Station for Celebration at the Station Sunday night. If you need some help with dinner, they’ll be food trucks and beer for sale. The concert, headlined by an outdoor performance by the Kansas City Symphony, begins at 8 p.m. and ends with fireworks. KCPT will also do a live broadcast of the event.[Image via Facebook: Somerset Ridge]
