Just as a manager might alternate left and right-handed hitters, a decent ballpark lineup has to give you something sweet and savory to get you through somewhere in the vicinity of 200 minutes of baseball.
The Kansas City Royals have added a new member of the outfield. Belfonte Ice Cream & Dairy Foods will have an ice cream shop in the Outfield Experience (where Sheridan’s Frozen Custard was last year) at Kauffman Stadium. The KC-based dairy company will be selling its ice cream at carts and concessions around the K.
The Opening Day lineup will also bear witness to the Farmland Nacho — pulled pork, bacon, bacon creme sauce, spicy giardiniera, and pico de gallo on tortilla chips. There are two additions in the hot dog universe, as well. A hand-battered corn dog will be joined by the Blazin’ Buffalo Chicken Dog — a beef hot dog topped with pulled chicken, buffalo sauce and coleslaw.
The world thinks highly of what the Royals are offering off the field. Trip Advisor ranked Kauffman Stadium the seventh best ballpark in the United States (if you’re judging the list, PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was first). And USA TODAY named the cheesy corn brisket-acho (the napkin-crushing smash-up of barbecue and nachos) at The K as one of its ’10 best ballpark foods.’ For 2014, the cheesy corn brisket-acho will be served in a souvenir helmet — consider it the hat equivalent of a t-shirt food challenge.
