After a four-year hiatus, Blanc Burgers + Bottles (4120 Pennsylvania) is back in Westport. The burger and beer concept from the Circle Restaurant Group opens today in the former Simply Breakfast space (across from Port Fonda and a few doors down from Murray’s Homemade Ice Creams).
The first Blanc opened in March 2008 at 419 Westport Road, where the Westport Cafe & Bar is currently. The combination of craft beer and burgers was an immediate hit. Blanc was ahead of the burger boom in Kansas City and eaters scarfed up the fries in miniature shopping carts and dredged them through the house-made ketchup before downing it all with an alcoholic milkshake. In February of 2009, a second Blanc opened in Leawood’s Mission Farms.
The early success led owner Ernesto Peralta (the restaurant group also included his wife Jenifer, former Drop owner Eddie Crane, and Happy Gillis’ Josh Eans) to move the original location from Westport to the Plaza. The eatery on Westport Road closed in late January 2010 and Blanc opened in the former Pizzeria Uno spot the following month. Blanc was poised to rapidly expand. There was plans to open a shop in Little Rock, Arkansas, and a spin-off concept, B:2 A Burger Boutique, appeared in Lee’s Summit in April 2010. But B:2 didn’t catch on in the Summit Fair development and closed just eight months into its operation. The kitchen equipment and tables would find new life at a Blanc in Omaha, Nebraska. The Nebraska outpost was shuttered in June 2012.
In January of this year, Blanc closed its Plaza location and announced that it would be moving back to Westport. The new Blanc will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.[Image via Facebook: Blanc Burgers + Bottles]
