The burger is back, Westport. Dempsey’s Burger Pub, which took over the former Blanc Burger space this summer, has opened at 4120 Pennsylvania Avenue.
The Recommended Daily chatted with Dempsey’s owner Steve Gaudreau back in July about his desire to “bring a fine dining concept to burgers.” The first Dempsey’s opened in Lawrence in 2008 (it was originally called Dempsey’s Irish Pub). Locations have since been added in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Wichita, Kansas.
As for the menu, the burgers come in slider form or on a salad, in addition to the standard 7-ounce patty. They’ve also got Kobe beef burgers served with shallot marmalade, tomato confit and micro greens. Order the duck fat fries (and thank us later) and the egg burger, which is topped with Swiss, a fried egg and bacon. Vegetarians can dive into the quinoa burger with sweet chili aioli, pickled carrot, and a jalapeno cilantro slaw.
Happy hour is from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday with $4 drafts, $5 wines and Old Fashioneds (made with a house Guinness simple syrup). Dempsey’s in Westport opens daily at 11 a.m.
