There’s the Fire Bar which has its own menu (loaded tater tots and American Kobe pigs in the blanket) and a $5 happy hour (bar bites, signature martinis, margaritas and cocktails) from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The wood-fired grill sends out everything from surf and turf (half-pound lobster tail and 7 oz. bacon wrapped filet) to a vegetable kabob (cilantro pumpkin seed pesto drizzled over a portabella spinach cheese quesadilla).
There are 30 Firebirds locations across 12 states, including a second Kansas restaurant in Wichita. The 14-year-old steak and seafood chain was founded by Wichita’s own Dennis Thompson, one of the idea men behind the Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon. In a 2012 interview with The Wichita Eagle, Thompson placed Firebirds somewhere between Outback and Morton’s on the steak concept spectrum.
