Forget hats and gloves. If you want to get warm this winter, go with the Free State Brewing Company’s Owd Mac. The Lawrence brewery is having a dock sale at the production facility (1923 Moodie Road) of the barrel-aged Imperial Stout (which spent a year aging in Templeton Rye barrels). The sale starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 2 p.m. Brewers will be on hand, so you can buy a pint and chat about the beers they make. The 750 ml bottles are $15 per person and they only made 60 cases, so you likely want to get their sooner rather than later.
Julep Cocktail Club (4141 Pennsylvania Avenue, #104) will offer brunch for the first time this Sunday with a menu designed by chef Debbie Gold. Julep’s nod to the South continues with its brunch menu: biscuits and gravy and grits join the standard cast of French toast and egg sandwiches. Brunch is from 12 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Take a moment to hug some ice cream this weekend. Murray’s Ice Cream & Cookies (4120 Pennsylvania) is slated to close for the season on Sunday. They’ll have regular hours from 12 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday and then the sale Sunday starts at 12 p.m. The Pitch’s Charles Ferruzza noted earlier this week that the clearance sale (it’s all to-go and it’s all half-price) has wrapped up in 45 minutes in years past. It’s cash only, so hit the ATM first.
There’s a new Friday tradition starting in the East Bottoms tonight. Urban Provisions (2616 Guinotte Avenue) is hosting a third Friday pop up shop tonight from 5 to 9 p.m. You can get beer bread mix from I Loaf You and sample brews from the Crane Brewing Company. The Local Pig’s Adam Northcraft (husband of UP co-owner Savannah Northcraft) will be making Vietnamese street food.
Can’t wait until our book, Cookies & Beer, is out on store shelves next fall? Neither can we. In To help tide you over, Bier Station (120 East Gregory) is hosting Kami’s cookies and beer party from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday. See what you think of chocolate-caramel cream cookies and Founders Porter and snickerdoodles with Deschutes Jubleale. There will also be root beer and cookies and dog cookies for your two and four-legged children.[Images via Free State, Julep]
