The late night dessert game in Westport has radically changed over the past month. Doughnut Lounge — a new cocktail/coffee bar and doughnut shop [see how they make their vegetarian Nodut in this video] — debuted in December and now Insomnia Cookies has opened at 505 Westport Road.
The 12-year-old cookie chain began out of a dorm room at the University of Pennsylvania and the base concept has remained the same. They deliver you warm cookies until the wee hours of the morning. It’s a concept that has proven popular with Insomnia Cookies locations in 29 states. The Westport spot opens daily at 11 a.m. Delivery begins daily at 12 p.m. (you can pick up cookies at 11 a.m.) and runs through the cookie shop’s closing at 3 a.m. There’s a $6 minimum order on deliveries.
If you’ve never been, Insomnia Cookies has cookies, brownies, cookie cakes, ice cream (for cookie ice cream sandwiches they call ‘wiches,’ and a la modes) and, perhaps most importantly, milk. The flavors are the cookie standards (chocolate chunk, oatmeal raisin, Snickerdoodle) to a little more wild (double chocolate mint, Smores, chocolate peanut butter cup). The stumble out of Harry’s Bar & Tables will never be the same.
