Things are heating up for Jon Russell’s Kansas City Barbeque. The area’s newest location opened this past Saturday at 13145 State Line Road in Kansas City, Missouri. Jon Russell’s also recently added a barbecue counter inside the 39th Street Market (1850 W. 39th St.).
At Jon Russell’s, they’re not afraid to top barbecue with cheese. The Late Nighter sandwich is ham and pork with spicy mustard, swiss and pickle while the Jesse James Melt has smoked turkey, grilled onions and cheddar. They serve traditional sides — pit beans, cheesy corn and mac n’ cheese — and Cajun coleslaw, Southwestern roasted corn potato salad and house fried potato chips. They also have a kid’s menu where you can work your offspring up to ribs, starting them with a smoked hot dog or pulled pork sliders before the JR Kid Rib meal. As for dessert, you can opt for S’more bites or snag a bag of Saltine Toffee.
Jon Russell’s is owned and operated by 39th Street Bevco, which owns the 39th Street Market as well as the Pita! Mediterranean Grill. There are also Jon Russell’s locations at 12094 W. 135th St. in Overland Park and inside 39th Street Bevco’s Prairie Market convenience store at 9350 Renner Road in Lenexa. The Overland Park location is the original restaurant. It will celebrate its second anniversary this July.
