The downtown set has a new option for lunch.

The Kansas City Hot Dog Emporium & Coffee Shop is open for business. Jean Rhodes, a former respiratory therapist, is the chef and owner behind the breakfast and lunch spot in the old Quizno’s space at Oak Tower (324 E. 11th St., Suite 120).

The coffee is from the Roasterie and the menu has the aforementioned hot dogsĀ  — cooked on an indoor smoker with hickory and cherry wood — and a selection of stick-to-your-ribs sandwiches (pulled pork, pot roast in red wine sauce, and baked turkey with gravy and cranberry chutney).

The Recommended Daily spoke with Rhodes last month about her plan to bring picnic sides and family recipes to the downtown loop. The Kansas City Hot Dog Emporium & Coffee Shop is open from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
