Kansas City Restaurant Week & other weekend possibilities

It’s time to be a culinary explorer. Kansas City Restaurant Week, launches today and runs through next Sunday, January 24. It’s a host of prix fixe lunches ($15) and dinners ($33) at 185 restaurants in the greater metro area. One suggestion? The BLVD Tavern (320 Southwest Boulevard) will set you up with grilled asparagus (with pickled cherries and a balsamic reduction) and a Reuben for lunch. We’re a silver sponsor and we’ve been kicking out a series of sponsored guides covering downtown and Westport/39th street restaurants.

Bundle up and enjoy some winter brews tonight at Harpo’s Freeze Out. The Westport bar is hosting a party on its patio to benefit the KC Pet Project from 7 to 10 p.m. with a host of winter warmers (Blue Moon Gingerbread, Anchor Christmas Ale, & Charleville Whiskey Scented Santa, among them).

Get to know your local artists at the Indie Pop Craft Experience at Thistle (122 W 5th Street) this weekend. The ‘Holiday Decompression Event’ will feature mugs from Citrus Panda Pottery, as well as reclaimed and embroidered pieces. There’s a preview tonight from 5-9 p.m. (it’s $5, but there will be booze and live music) or you can go Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free tomorrow.

Ready to expand your gardening horizons? SeedSavers is hosting its annual Seed Exchange on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hampton Inn (4600 Summit Street). It’s a chance to swap seeds, snag fresh eggs and fermented goodies, and win gift certificates to everywhere from Underdog Wine Co. to Heirloom Bakery & Hearth.

More beer, that’s the name of the game. Crane Brewing Company — the gentleman who currently make Orange Gose and Apricot Weiss — are holding a launch party for their arrival in Missouri on Monday at 4 p.m. at Bier Station (120 E Gregory Boulevard). The Raytown brewery began distributing in Kansas last month and will be hosting a series of events for their launch in Missouri over the course of next week.
