You probably won’t get a chance to see a bigger picnic this summer than Kansas City’s Big Picnic on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Pack your own fixings or buy dinner from a food truck and snag some Blue Bell ice cream for dessert. The picnic is next to The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art’s Sculpture Garden and Theis Park (between Oak and Rockhill on Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard).

The Fiery Stick Open is this afternoon. They’ve built a one-hole golf course outside Liberty Memorial and are setting up a beer garden, food trucks, yard games (bocce, croquet, pong) and live music from 3 to 8 p.m. General admission tickets are $10.

The Cass County Fair runs through Sunday in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. There’s a rodeo, fireworks display (Friday and Saturday night) and lots of farm and livestock exhibits.

Aristocrat Motors (9400 W 65th Street, Merriam, Kansas) is hosting a Food Truck Showdown to benefit Harvesters on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Six food trucks (including Crave KC and Beauty of the Bistro) will be onsite. If you want a sample from any of them, it’s a $2 donation.

In order to celebrate their 25th anniversary and the fifth anniversary of their production plant, The Free State Brewing Company is holding an open house at their production facility (1923 Moodie Road, Lawrence) from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be free tours of the plant and beer and food available for purchase (the proceeds benefit the Health Care Access Clinic).

Shoal Creek Living History Museum (7000 NE Barry Road) is holding a car show and firehouse chili cookoff on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is free.

Twinkies take center stage at the second annual Twinkies Festival at the Flint Hills Mall in Emporia, Kansas, from 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. There will be deep-fried Twinkies, a costume contest and Twinkies eating contests (adult and youth division).
