Roll out the barrels — the Kansas City Bier Company (310 West 79th Street) opens today at 4 p.m. The newest microbrewery in Kansas City will have German-style beers with a tasting room modeled after a beer hall. When the weather gets warmer, there will also be an outdoor beer garden meant to evoke the classic watering holes of Munich.

The brewery will feature five brews (Double Alt, Dunkel, Hefeweizen, Helles, Weizenbock) to start. The beer will initially be available only in the beer hall, but will likely begin showing up on taps around the metro in March. The KC Bier Company’s 30-barrel system makes it the fourth largest brewery in Missouri.

For those who want a bite with their beer, the KC Bier Company also serves traditional German sausages and pretzels paired with mustard. [For a more in-depth look at the food and beer, The Recommended Daily sat down with founder and director of brewing operations Steve Holle at the end of January.]

KC Bier Company will be open from 4 to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 12 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
