KC Bier Co’s Biergarten Hog Roast & other weekend possibilities

weekend-050815It’s pig roast season. There’s no better way to start to think about grilling than a whole hog. The Local Pig is smoking an entire pig in the Biergarten at the Kansas City Bier Co. (310 W 79th Street). There’s live music from 2 to 9 p.m. and they’re tapping Bavarian Barrel (1 p.m.).

Heirloom Bakery & Hearth (401 E 63rd Street) is having their grand opening this weekend and will be dishing up everything from house Pop-Tarts to rustic bread Saturday and Sunday.

Need a new combo in your life? How about a theme park and wine tasting? Worlds of Fun kicks off its World Food & Wine Festival Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. with two wine samples and food pairings at six locations. The tasting event will also be held this Sunday and next Saturday, May 16. $59.99 gets you park admission and sampling, while $25 is for the event alone.

Love Harry Truman? Join fellow Truman enthusiasts at two places this weekend. The Independence Square Association is hosting “Pancakes with Harry,” for Truman Day on the Square from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. It’s all-you-can-eat pancakes and there’s a a pet costume contest (because who doesn’t want to see a dog or cat dressed like Harry or Bess Truman). Tickets are $6 (or four for $20). The Harry S. Truman Library and Museum celebrates President Truman’s 131st birthday (along with the 790th anniversary of V-E day on Saturday with free birthday cake and a re-enactor on hand from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Admission to the museum from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. is free.
