Mema’s Bakery opens at 1360 Walnut Street today.

Mema’s makes povitica, strudel, donuts, massive cinnamon rolls and cookies. They’ve got biscuits and gravy for breakfast in the morning and they serve soup, salad and sandwiches on their lunch menu. Mema’s also has daily specials, like their 75 cent beef tacos and $1 chicken tacos on Tuesdays and grilled cheese and a cup of soup for $5 on Thursdays.

The bakery opened its original Power & Light location at 1211 Main Street five years ago. The Main Street shop closed earlier this month as Mema’s prepared for its move to the former Yummo Yogurt + Smoothies space. Mema’s has another location at 7720 State Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. The KCK shop in Wyandotte Plaza opened this April. The bakery began in the kitchen of owner Loraine Waldeck and is named for her mother Marion Hoffman (‘Mema’ to her grandchildren).

For their grand opening today, they’ll be offering a free cookie to those who visit their new Power & Light location.
