Farmers markets are popping up almost as quickly as tomato plants this June. The Merriam Farmers’ Market will debut its Wednesday night market tonight at 5701 Merriam Drive. The Saturday Farmers Market has been running for the past 14 years.
For the mid-week market’s grand opening, 99.7 The Point will be giving away True Leaf tea samples and the city of Merriam will have free rain gauges. There will be more than a dozen vendors selling honey, baked goods and produce. Prairie Fire Oven, the mobile wood-fired pizza kitchen, will also be slinging Neopolitan-style pizzas. Owner David White will be firing up pepperoni, sausage and somerset truffle pies, as well as a ‘Sweet Dani’ Margherita made with basil of the same name and the Beetza (Gremolata oil, mozzarella, provolone, gorgonzola, salt, roasted beets and sausage topped with arugula and shaved parmesan).
The Wednesday market runs from 4 to 7 p.m. through August 27. The Saturday market is from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be open through October 11.[Image via Facebook: Prairie Fire Oven]
