Nick and Jake’s is open in Kansas City

There is a new name on Main Street. Two names to be exact. Nick and Jake’s opened its Kansas City outpost last week at 5031 Main Street.

The restaurant, owned by Kevin Timmons and Doug Watkins, is squarely in the camp of American fare, albeit with Asian, Cajun and Mexican twists. The original location (named for their two children) is in Overland Park (6830 West 135th Street) and there’s another location in Parkville (6325 Lewis Street, Suite 110). The duo began work on the Kansas City spot this January. The space previously held The Beacon, Jack Gage American Tavern and the Double Dragon Chinese Buffet.

The menu is accessible — salads, sandwiches, small plates (shrimp and grits, lobster mac-n-cheese), burgers, seafood dishes, pasta and country favorites (meatloaf, pot pie, and oversized chicken fingers). They also have shrimp and grits (jalapeno cheddar grits), a 1/2 pound burger appropriately named the ‘1/2 Pounder,’ and ‘Bondo’s’ Fried Pork Tenderloin made with pit ham, cinnamon apples, monterey jack and chipotle mayo on an egg bun.

Nick and Jake’s dining room in Kansas City is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. The bar is open for two hours after the dining room closes (i.e. until midnight on Monday through Thursday). The phone number is 816-421-1111.
