Hide your arteries, things are about to get fried. The pineapple fritters at Oz’s Maq Donut House (3615 W. 95th St., Overland Park) are crispy discs studded with sweet chunks of pineapple. In a town that loves its donuts, this is one of the more unique fried pastries to behold.
The fritters, which also come in apple, are made and fried by the dozen. Owner Mohammad Aslam Qadir — the “Ozzie,” in Oz — still makes his own after more than three decades at the shop that used to be a Winchell’s. [You can learn more about Qadir’s storefront in The Kansas City Star’s 913 section today — The Recommended Daily’s Jonathan Bender penned a piece on independent Johnson County donut shops for them].
Oz’s Maq Donut House is open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The phone number is 913-381-0425.
