Parkville Microbrew Fest & other weekend possibilities

It's a pizza and beer kind of weekend.

It’s a pizza and beer kind of weekend.

The 12th annual Parkville Microbrew Fest is Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at English Landing Park. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 the day of the event (it’s cash only). 4 Hands Brewing Company, 515 Brewing Company, Defiance Brewing Co., Kirkwood Station Brewing Co., Perennial Artisan Ales will be among the breweries on hand [they’ve got a beer list on line too]. Check out this piece from The Pitch for a good look at Blind Tiger Brewery out of Topeka, Kansas.

The 2015 KC Culinary Community Bake Sale for No Kid Hungry is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Commerce Bank (6336 Brookside Plaza) branch in Brookside. Snap up treats from 3 Woman & an Oven, Farm to Market Bread Co., Swoon Cookies, Dolce Bakery and others, as well as celebrity bakers The Pitch’s Charles Ferruzza and KC’s Magazine’s Kimberly Winter Stern and Katie Van Luchene.

If you can’t find a beer here; maybe it’s time to admit you’re a wine drinker. Yard House (1300 Main Street) opens downtown in the Power & Light District on Saturday. They’ll have 130 beers on tap. Take your time. That’s a lot of beer.

There are farm to table dinners and then there’s sitting down for dinner on the farm. Stony Crest Urban Farm (8740 Brooklyn Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri) hosts a Spring Farm to Table dinner this Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. Chef and farmer Roger Kube will be preparing spring vegetable fritattas, a rainbow carrot slaw, fresh greens salad and rhubarb swirl cheesecake. There will also be Ibis bread, local coffee and beer. The farm will open for the evening at 4 p.m. if you want to take a self-guided tour. Dinner is $35.

Do you need a spirit guide into the world of mushrooms. Slow Food Kansas City is presenting Mushroom Madness at Il Lazzarone (412 Delaware Street) — the new Neapolitan-style pizza shop in the River Market — on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. As we get into morel season, Matt Trammell of Trammell Treasure Mushroom Farms will be talking about his family’s farm in Warrensburg, Missouri, and how to grow and prepare fungi. It’s free for SFKC members and a $5 donation is requested from non-members.
