Find an awl, downtowners, pulled pork will soon be on the lunch menu. Plowboys Barbeque plans to open a second location in the Town Pavilion building (1111 Main Street) this November.
“When people come to town for business, they want Kansas City BBQ. With no BBQ in the downtown loop since Lil’ Jakes, we are filling a gap,” said Plowboys president and chief pitmaster Todd Johns in a release announcing the new restaurant.
The original Plowboys (3111 S Missouri 7, Blue Springs, Missouri) celebrated its first anniversary on September 3. Prior to running a brick-and-mortar location, Johns had been competing on the barbecue circuit for a dozen years. [He and the restaurant were featured on The Travel Channel’s BBQ Crawl in August.] His team, the Pork Pullin Plowboys, was named the American Royal World Series of Barbecue Invitational Grand Champion in 2009. Plowboys branded sauces and rubs have been on the market for the past seven years.
The Plowboys at 11th and Main will serve the same pulled pork, brisket, barbecue nachos (fried tortilla chips, house queso, sour cream, jalapenos, spicy barbecue sauce and pulled pork, brisket, chicken or a combo of meats) and burnt ends as the Blue Springs location, but will also be adding a series of barbecue wraps and salads designed specifically for the lunch set. They’ll have ribs on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Diners can either order at a cafeteria-style window — the restaurant will seat 54 people — or grab food from a separate carryout window. Blair Cragg, an assistant manager since the original location opened in 2013, will run the day-to-day operations in Kansas City.[Image via Facebook: Plowboys BBQ]
