After 17 years on the Plaza, Ruth’s Chris Steak House (700 W. 47th St., Suite 115) is closing this Sunday. In a statement to The Kansas City Star, Ruth’s Hospitality Group president and COO Kevin Toomy cited the expiration of the location’s long-term lease as the reason for shuttering the steak house and left open the possibility that Ruth’s Chris may return to the area. Ruth’s Chris gift cards are still valid at any of the chain’s outposts, but the only other locations in Missouri are a pair in St. Louis.

The steak house closing isn’t the only major move in this area of the Plaza. Polsinelli relocated its headquarters from the Plaza Steppes, where Ruth’s Chris is now, to the Plaza Vista development four months ago. And it was announced last week that Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar will open on the first floor of the law firm’s new headquarters at 900 West 48th Place this summer. It’s the fifth location for the Colorado operation known for its raw bar. Jax is looking to open in August.

The Ruth’s Chris on the Plaza is open from 5 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The phone number is 816-531-4800.
