Feeling crabby? The Soft Shell Crab Po’ Boy returns to Joe’s Kansas City today. It’s a deep-fried soft shell crab on a hoagie bun topped with BBQ remoulade, shredded cabbage and tomato jam. The jam, made in house, was created two years ago for the restaurant’s smoked salmon salad. That salad joined the seafood jambalaya and a fish filet Z-man as previous Lenten specials that have since been retired.
For those forgoing meat for Lent (or those who simply want the barbecue experience without the meat attached to it), Oklahoma Joe’s also has its Portobello Z-man on the menu. It’s a smoked portobello mushroom (swapped in for the standard sliced brisket), provolone cheese, onion rings, barbecue sauce, and a swath of bbq mayo on the bottom bun of the kaiser roll.
The Portobello Z-man is a regular menu item, while the Soft Shell Crab Po’Boy is available today and on Fridays, during Lent, through April 3, at all three Joe’s Kansas City locations (3002 W. 47th Ave, Kansas City, Kansas, 11950 S Strang Line Road, Olathe, Kansas, and 11723 Roe Avenue, Leawood, Kansas).[Image via Facebook: Joe’s Kansas City]
