Carl Thorne-Thomsen is officially the people’s champion. The executive chef and co-owner of Story in Prairie Village has been named Food & Wine’s People’s Best New Chef. In 2013, Thorne-Thomsen captured the Midwest region in the popular companion to the magazine’s recognition of new culinary stars across the country. And today, he’s taken home the crown for the entire country.
Three Kansas City chefs were nominated in the Midwest region this year for the honor: Thorne-Thomsen, Port Fonda’s Patrick Ryan and Novel’s Ryan Brazeal. The public voted via the Internet over the past week to narrow the field of 10 nominees. There are 10 regions in total, each has its own winner with the top vote getter — in this case Thorne-Thomsen — being named the People’s Best New Chef.
Food & Wine announced the list of its annual Best New Chefs via editor Dana Cowin’s Instagram account yesterday.
