Those of you who have been driving on Johnson Drive the past year could probably use a drink after navigating that construction. You’re in luck. The Bar has opened at 6101 Johnson Drive in the former Mission Tire and Service Center space. The Bar, a neighborhood bar and grill concept from the team behind Bar West in Shawnee, is open from 11 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. daily.
The menu at the new Mission spot is the same as Bar West. There’s a host of half-pound burgers (including a jalapeno onion string burger and a patty melt), a BLT made with candied pepper bacon, Boulevard-battered onion rings, a Thai chili chicken wrap, and a Chopped House Salad topped with fried chicken.
Be like Hilde (she’s pictured above. Click on the link because we should all dance like this at the age of 91 years old) and drink at Quay Coffee (412 Delaware Street, Suite B). The River Market coffee shop has been making a series of customer appreciation videos that we won’t spoil, except to say they feature some golden oldies showcasing their moves.
Warm up with the winter menu at Julep (4141 Pennsylvania). The Westport cocktail club has a fig-infused brown bourbon with honey, lemon, cinnamon and hot water. This is what was known as medicine in the Old West.
Santa got his cookies and now you can get yours. Big Rip Brewing Company (216 E 9th Avenue, North Kansas City) will have bottles of its Oatmeal Raisin Cookie (a brown ale) again, starting this Saturday, at 5 p.m.
It’s always barbecue happy hour somewhere in Kansas City. That somewhere just happens to be Q39 (1000 W 39th Street), where chicken wings with a chipotle BBQ sauce are $1.50, ribs are $2 and a mini brisket burger or fries with chipotle ketchup are $3 between 3 and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at the bar.[Images via Facebook: Quay, Julep and Big Rip]
