Ugly Sweater Party and other weekend possibilities

uglysweater-121914It’s the one time of year you get mileage out of your Ugly Christmas Sweater, so we’re going to keep giving you chances to let that bad boy shine. In the Power and Light District, Howl at the Moon hosts an Ugly Sweater Party beginning tonight at 5 p.m. Your sweater gets you a free koozie and a shot at a $50 gift card (if it’s ugliest). Heinekens are $3 and 86 ounces of Cousin Eddie Punch is $18.

The Genessee Royale Bistro (1531 Genessee Street) goes Italian this Saturday. The West Bottoms eatery is hosting a four-course dinner that runs from a warm bean salad with radiccio and pancetta to pistachio cake with vanilla bean gelato and olive oil. The bar open at 6:30 p.m. and the dinner starts at 7 p.m. It’s $40 and reservations, (816)-474-7070 are required.

Third Fridays might just start to be a thing. Urban Provisions (2616 Guinotte Avenue) is hosting another installment of its 3rd Fridays Pop Up Shop with local artists and food producers from 5 to 9 p.m. tonight. Oddly Correct, Cable & Co., Kansas City Canning Company, J Rieger & Co., Lovely Crew and chef Nick Summers will be on hand for the urban market.

You need some lightness in your life (hence our listing of 5 grapefruit drinks to bring you sunshine). Taste a bit of California at the Underdog Wine Co. (319 E 55th Street) tonight from 5 to 6:30 p.m. They’ll be sampling four wines, a pair of whites and reds, from Tablas Creek.

Some movies require a little drinking. Screenland Armour (408 Armour Road, North Kansas City) is showing Bad Santa tonight at 10 p.m. Cringe and laugh. A $10 ticket gets you into the show and a bottle of Lagunitas IPA.

Second Best Coffee (328 W 85th Street) hosts a pop-up for Heirloom Bakery & Hearth — a new bakery slated to open in early 2015 in Brookside — this Saturday, starting at 7:30 a.m. If you need more incentive, SBC has also started making their own lavender marshmallows.

The Golden Ox (1600 Genessee) closes its doors for the last time on Saturday. We’d get the prime rib sandwich for lunch, but we’ll also never tell another human how to order their steak.
